African American Business Professionals
To Hold Inaugural Meeting Oct. 27 in Marlton
New Group Focuses on Networking, Philanthropy

MARLTON, N.J., Oct. 7, 2010 – As Bruce Davis waded his way through the South Jersey business landscape, he saw an opportunity to harness the power of a certain segment of business owners and professionals.

The owner and founder of The Efficiency Xperts in Maple Shade, a business consulting group, Davis knew from first-hand experience that the African American business community in the area was vibrant and growing.  He also knew from talking to his peers that philanthropy and giving something back to the community was a common motivator among black business professionals, right up there with growing business and increasing the bottom line.

“I have met so many African American business owners and executives in the area  and everyone seems to agree that we need an organization for aggressively developing business for one another and for reaching out to the community,” says Davis.  “There are so many people, including African Americans, who are starting their own businesses in response to being downsized in this economy.  And there are many professionals and others working in large corporations that are vital to the success of any business.  So this feels like the right time to band together and seek those synergies that will make a difference for our businesses and the African American community as a whole.”

To that end, Davis and colleagues Cynthia Scott, Wayne Howard and Bernadette Davis have co-founded the African American Business & Professional Network (AABPN).  The group will hold its inaugural meeting Wednesday, Oct. 27, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at Citizens Bank, Marlton Crossing, 301 S. Route 73 in Marlton.  Geraldine Reed-Brown, Esq., will be the guest speaker with the topic “The Benefit of Strategic Alliances.”   Reed-Brown, who holds an MBA and J.D. from Harvard, is past president of the Garden State Bar Association.  She currently serves as associate director of Business Advisory Services for The Efficiency Xperts.

The AABPN’s mission is three-fold: to grow members’ businesses by creating an active referral network, with compensation for creating leads that turn into new business; to impact the African American community, not just to be present; and to help members of the African American community through philanthropy.  Educational scholarships and entrepreneurial mentoring will eventually be among the mix of programs AABPN offers.

Davis founded The Efficiency Xperts earlier this year.  Cynthia Scott is a vice president and branch manager for Citizens Bank in Marlton.  Wayne Howard is a financial advisor with Bala Financial Group, Inc., a member of the John Hancock Network, in Glassboro, N.J., and Bernadette Davis is owner of Real Estate Nuances, LLC, in Cherry Hill, NJ.
